Looking for A Great Read or Just Another Author to Follow?

Here's a Few

I recommend these authors because of their great feedback and/or ability to write a wonderful story that they wish to share to the world. Please check them out. They would love to hear from you and they may even check out your work too.

:bulletblack: If you're interested in an action, cleverly written, fantasy about a strong willed assassin, then Cassandria the Assassin is for you. This novel excerpt brings you right into the life of Cassandria and keeps you on your toes right until the very end. Written by =Matsudarias and can be found here: [link]

:bulletgreen: As a deviant, Matsu has given a great deal to the Writing Community. He gives out heart felt critiques and is always looking for ways to improve on his own works. Everything he seems to take on, he just gets better. He's always looking for valuable feedback on his work and would appreciate every bit of it.

:bulletblack: Do you love teen fiction? Well then Just Listen is the story for you. It's funny, romantic, and just amazing all together. Following Elle, a girl being brought back into her love for music by the rebellious town villain and guitarist, Jared Hunter, this story is perfect for those who have ever been at a 'red light' in their lives. Written by ~Storyteller21 and can be found here: [link]

:bulletblue: She is a wonderful writer and her feedback always makes my day. If you were to take the time to view her work, you wouldn't regret it. Her story is great and she's one to always give in return. Just view my work if you want proof, and you'll see her comments all through it. All you would have to do is ask her, and, trust me, it's worth looking into.

:bulletblack: Now, if you're interested in a beautifully written story that brings you into a brand new world just by reading a few sentences, then The Fallen Star is more your speed. A story that keeps you on the edge of your seat every chapter, and never ceases to bore the imagination. Written by *TheFS and can be found here: [link]

:bulletpurple: This guy is part of a group called #GrammarNaziCritiques and the title is quite suiting. He's probably the best critic I've seen here on DA. If you're interested in very thorough and detailed critiques, I strongly suggest both joining his group and viewing his work. You won't be disappointed.

:bulletblack: If you would prefer a shorter read still filled with the intrigue that a novel would bring, then you should view ~Eefwee 's gallery. It's filled with action packed stories surrounding familiar characters in each, keeping you guessing just what he plans to do next with the gang. Gallery can be viewed here: [link]

:bulletyellow: He's a writer on DA that really deserves more than he receives. He's quite talented and just a nice guy all around. If you were to ask him to view your work in return for you viewing his, I'm sure he would be happy to do so. He has enough talent and skill to help you where you need it most.

:iconblackdivider1plz::iconblackdivider2plz::iconblackdivider3plz::iconblackdivider4plz::iconblackdivider5plz::iconblackdivider5plz:

I am very honored to have been able to read these works and I picked these guys for a reason. I strongly wish to help them get their amazing works out there, because they definitely deserve it. Help me and read their stories ^-^

Things I Know About Publishing, Which Might Help You

Traditional Publishing

~Though The Family has been self-published due to me wanting to receive feedback on it to make it the best it can be before sending it out to major publishing companies, I do know the basics of traditional publishing.

:bulletyellow: First Step: Complete Your Manuscript.
~You need a full story before you can even think about sending it to anyone. No one wants to see unfinished works.

:bulletblue: Step Two: Editing. :writersblock:
~Make sure your story is as perfect as you can make it. Look carefully for errors, and have others read it to help make sure you didn't miss anything. You don't want to make a bad impression with funky grammar. :P

:bulletpink: Step Three: Query Letter. :pc:
~A query letter works in three steps (unless you include the option of submitting your manuscript. That will depend solely on what the agent requests from the letter).

1. The first paragraph is your Story's Synopsis.
-I know it's so hard to summarize your 50,000-90,000 word story in just one paragraph, but it's essential to your book's promotion. When you write the synopsis, make sure it's both interesting and informative enough to draw in your reader. The more interesting you make your synopsis, the better chance you have of an agent wanting to take their time to invest in your story. Don't let them look like this--> :movingon:

2. Personal Background.
-This part should be easy. Give a few sentences about you, why you decided to become a writer, and your devotion to your works. Try to keep this about 3-5 sentences long. The agent doesn't want a biography about you, well, unless that's the book you're trying to sell :XD:

3. Thank You Note.
-Thank the agent for their time to read your query letter. They receive hundreds weekly, so show your respect to them for even noticing your email. This should be done in 1-2 sentences after the author bio.

:bulletpurple: Step Four: Finding an Agent.
~I don't care what anyone has told you about publishing, but you absolutely need an agent. Did you get that? You NEED one. A good place to find a licensed agent is at agentquery.com. I found that site to be very helpful. Now remember, you never ever pay an agent to take your story. They pay you for your sales, and they'll get their cut then. Once you find a handful of agents specialized in your novel's genre, then you email them your query letter. Make sure to read their specifications on how to send them the letter. Some may require three or more pages of your manuscript.

:butterfly: Know that you may go through several agents before finding that one who will stick with you and your story. Remember, it only takes one yes.

Self-Publishing

:bulletorange: Self-publishing is a very useful tool for sites like DA and those who are wishing to share their story but had the fear of people stealing their ideas. When you self-publish, your works are officially given a copyright if done by a credible company. For self-publishing, I recommend lulu.com. They are certified, and they also help with distribution of your works. A great option for those who want to have their novel in printed form; cover and all.

:bulletgreen: When you self-publish, make sure to format correctly; which includes a back cover synopsis, cover page, possible table of contents, copyright page. Make sure the pages are numbered, the starts of the new chapters all look the same in spacing, and the book starts on the right hand side. It's a tedious process, but it's very rewarding for those who want to see their books printed and don't want to traditional publish just yet. :library:

I'll Be Returning Soon, I Promise

Journal Entry: Wed May 1, 2013, 10:58 PM

:iconlove:It's been quite some time since I've actually been active on here. Work has consumed my life, and if it isn't work, it's spending time with my close friends who I can't see often due to work. Vicious cycle, I know.

:iconloveturquoiseplz: I've also haven't posted anything in over three weeks. This is because Microsoft Word stopped working on my computer; not allowing me to write and/or submit PDF files. :( Writing has always been an outlet for me, so you can imagine just how stressed I've been without it, including the work load that has been thrown at me.

:iconloveblackplz: Good news though, I've finally been given Word today so I can soon access my documents and also submit again! I'm so relieved  now, knowing that I can continue writing the story that has taught me so much and has gotten me through several obstacles that life has thrown at me; whether it was through writing it out, or discovering new ways to view life. I don't know if you guys can understand that, but I just felt like it was something I should say...

:iconlovepurpleplz: Now, for those who have been waiting for critiques. I will say this again; I am sorry. I've been so stressed lately, and so busy all the time, that I just haven't had much breathing room to read all of your lovely works. Maybe one day soon, I will. You guys have motivated me to keep writing, and I wish to do the same for you. Even if something happens and I never get the honor to read your works, know this:
:iconleftpinklacenroseplz::iconpinklacenroseplz::iconpinklacenroseplz::iconpinklacenroseplz::iconpinklacenroseplz::iconpinklacenroseplz::iconpinklacenroseplz::iconpinklacenroseplz::iconrighpinklacenroseplz:
~Writing is a passion. A passion so strong, it not only helps guide you, but others drawn in by what you have to say.

~Your soul is slowly being represented by every word you write, every sentence you type.  Don't ever let that ability go.

~To represent yourself with such a passion, is to motivate another to mirror your actions.

~Imagine that. Others motivated by YOU, for it was YOU that stood strong through the storms and was able to tell the tale.

~Writers are the revolutionist of those trapped within themselves; a key to a broken lock, some may say.

~You are to free yourself, and maybe others along the way.

~So, whatever it is that guides your passion to write, never stop until your heart does the same.

Make sense?

I'm a young author and find myself interested in many different things. I wish to study in audio engineering, so I can later make music for video games and movies. I draw, (but I'm only moderate). I sing, play instruments (such as the Chinese wooden flute, piano, harmonica, and whatever else gets thrown at me.)

I grew up in a strange, unpredictable environment. I was raised by boys, so I can kick your butt in a fighting game (and possibly in real life. :XD:). My family is filled with convicts and my grandma is like the mob leader. So if you ask why some of my characters act a certain way, well, inspiration comes from somewhere. I love to learn new things, and history fascinates me. Ironic? Possibly. But, it's true.

My novel The Family was inspired by my French class. Hints the reason for Aaron's foster father speaking French. Now, on the other hand, it was also inspired by my History teacher, Cecil Marks. He used to tell my class that he was the father and we were all his children. Thus, Father was born and The Family gained its rightful name.

I also dabble in photography, if you haven't noticed by my original cover. I'm an animal lover, but can't stand zoos for some odd reason. Strawberries are the best fruit in the world. Chocolate is what I normally crave, and I'm addicted to frappucinos. I don't normally curse in person, but my writing has its shares. I hate clowns, and can't stand those who are too ignorant to know when to shut up. I'm an understanding person, but choose who I wish to understand. I'm outgoing, but can be shy at times. My life has had its hardships, but I'm quick to move on and learn from it. I'm afraid of what I can't control, and spiders. Those things are freaky~ Antiques amuse me, and I believe candles make a home feel more welcome. My nails are normally painted red, and my ears are pierced yet I don't have earrings.

Alright, that's all I can think of for now. Oh, my book can be bought below! Check that out ^-^ If you find it on Amazon and wish to buy it, I would prefer you go here instead. On this site, I gain most of the profit and not the company itself.

'Twas another :devart:-ist who pointed out to me that :llama:s are often offered without background checks or follow-ups, and that, aside from the normal stuff, they require emotional care to ensure their proper development. An under-stimulated :llama: can fall into depression I'm told, so I make it a practice to take them out regularly and count them :-)
If this is too confusing, I might suggest consulting my disclaimer, conveniently located at the end of the link below. It may not clarify anything, but it will certainly make the above post seem much clearer by comparison!
